Parental Practices to Support Healthy Eating Among Children (W-4003)

 

Kids ages 11 to 14 often consume fewer fruits & veggies and more sugary foods than recommended, especially when caregivers are not around. Enhancing Poultry Production with Emerging Technologies and Husbandry Practices (NE-1942)​

Researchers are working together to improve production of cage-free eggs, which are in high demand. For example, @NCStateCALS identified varieties of laying hens best suited for cage-free egg production, and collaborative efforts by multiple states found management techniques to increase the performance efficiency of laying hens in cage-free systems. https://bit.ly/poultry-production-welfare #NationalEggDay

 

As part of a multistate project, scientists at @CANRatMSU and @ClemsonCAFLS designed a robotic computer vision system that prevents cage-free hens from laying eggs on the floor where they are more susceptible to damage, feces, and debris and are harder to collect. https://bit.ly/poultry-production-welfare #NationalEggDay

Enhancing Microbial Food Safety by Risk Analysis (S-1077)

A team of multidisciplinary researchers and Extension professionals from 39 land-grant institutions has conducted risk-based research, education, and outreach to improve food safety from farm to table. They have made discoveries about pathogen behavior; evaluated risks to human health; developed innovative ways to predict, detect, track, and manage pathogens; and shared food safety education and training with scientists and educators, the food industry, and consumers.
