Supporting Rural America

Over 47 million people live in rural areas in the U.S. These communities provide food and other resources for people worldwide as well as recreation opportunities. While rural communities are incredibly important and resilient, they face many challenges, including isolation and limited job opportunities and access to healthcare and social services.
Hatch Multistate research projects are amplifying the voices of rural families, showcasing their strengths, and addressing their needs. Scientists are studying changes in rural areas and finding ways to address major economic, environmental, and health crises. Research and Extension have helped increase access to utilities, healthcare, jobs, and food in rural areas and improved emergency response to hurricanes, wildfires, and COVID-19. Other efforts have focused on supporting farmer success and safety.
