Improving the Health of Older Adults (NE-1939)
​
As part of a @USDA_NIFA-supported multistate project, researchers at land-grant universities are working together to assess the health needs of older adults and develop diet and exercise strategies that support healthier, longer, more productive lives. As part of a multistate project on #aging adults, @iastate_cals, @SDStateCAFES, @wvudavis, @UDC_ CAUSES, @ACESIllinois, @URI_CELS & @UMD_ AGNR assessed the nutrition and physical activity needs of 1,250 adults ages 40 years and older in seven states. Age-related loss of muscle mass and strength, can lead to decreased physical function, falls, and lower quality of life for older adults. As part of a multistate project on healthy #aging, researchers identified diet and exercises to support healthier muscle mass in aging adults. In particular, @iastate_cals, @SDStateCAFES, @URI_CELS, @wvudavis, @bumperscollege@nyuniversity & @UDC_CAUSES empowered women through an online muscle wasting prevention program. A multistate project is exploring how mechanization and automation can prevent ag worker injuries. 60% of the tomato processing industry adopted machines designed by @ucdavisCAES to inspect tomato juice.
